MISSION

Feminists for liberty aims to lead a new wave of an old idea: people should be treated equally under the law regardless of sex or gender (identity). We want to be a hub for a broad coalition of people devoted to the destruction of sexism and strict gender norms in a way that benefits us all. And of course nothing can benefit everyone by prioritizing the wants or needs of any group using the force of the state.

Guided by a long tradition of individualist or libertarian feminism, Feminist for Liberty’s mission is to provide a counternarrative to prevailing ideas about what feminism is and means, raise awareness about our space within the diversity of feminist thought, and promote liberty and gender justice for all.

We are sex positive, anti-carceral, classically liberal, and pro-choice in all realms of individual and economic freedom. Anti-sexism and anti-statism. We believe the best means of creating change in society can’t be based on coercion, criminalization, censorship, or bigger government. At the same time, we share many of the concerns of mainstream feminists and changes are necessary to promote equal opportunities and rights for everyone. We just sometimes disagree on how best to accomplish these goals.

By exploring a broad range of political and cultural issues from a free-thinking, feminist, libertarian, and intersectional perspective, we hope to attract others who want to promote gender liberation and women’s empowerment without abandoning civil liberties. Feminists for Liberty wants to bring together women, men, and people of all gender identities. People who may consider themselves feminists in theory, but not when they look at it in practice. People who think they’re anti-feminist because they haven’t been shown what it can be.

A wave starts with just a little wind blowing along the water’s surface, creating a small disturbance that steadily build into something bigger. Let’s create a disturbance.

Who we’re here for:

  • Women, men, and people of all gender identities
  • People who haven’t decided what they think about feminism
  • People who would consider themselves feminists in theory, except when they look at feminism they can’t get on board with it in practice.
  • People who are proud feminists but don’t see certain viewpoints or issues given enough airtime in current feminist discourse
  • People who think they’re anti-feminists because they don’t understand what feminism is and what it can be.
  • Intersectional feminists
  • Sex-positive feminists
  • People who want to promote gender equality (liberation?) and women’s empowerment without abandoning classically liberal ideas

Very measured. Do you have a definition of “sexism”?
