Feminists for Liberty is hosting a panel on abortion politics at FreedomFest 2022, which takes place this week (Wednesday – Sunday) in Las Vegas. Feminists for Liberty will also have a table in the exhibit hall — stop by and say hi! — and some of our leaders and friends will be speaking on multiple panels throughout the conference (more on that below).
Our panel — Beyond Roe: What Comes Next — takes place on Saturday, July 16, from 2:10pm – 3:00 p.m. (PT) in room Montego B/C.
Feminists for Liberty board member Avens O’Brien will be moderating the panel, which will also feature Izabela Patriota of the Ladies of Liberty Alliance (LOLA), Kaytlin Bailey of Old Pros, and Libertarian Party Director of Communications Bekah Congdon.
We’re psyched to be part of FreedomFest again. We had a great response last year when we debuted the winners of our 2021 video contest and hosted a mainstage panel (“Feminism Needs to Stop Calling the Cops“), and when speaking on individual panels in years prior to that.
Our panel this year is part of the conference’s first ever Wilder track, named for Rose Wilder Lane and featuring a slate of panels on issues related to women’s rights. You can find a full list of Wilder Summit panels here. We are especially excited to hear LOLA members from around the globe talk about women’s issues from a global perspective (Saturday, July 16, 4:10 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and to hear Avens O’Brien, Sara Hidden, Terry Kibbe, Olivia Rondeau, and Salomé Sibonex talk about why free speech is a feminist issue (Saturday, July 16, 11 – 11:50 a.m.).
We’re also excited for two panels featuring Elizabeth Nolan Brown, Feminists for Liberty’s co-founder and a senior editor at Reason magazine. She’ll be talking about sex worker rights and why the freedom of sex workers impacts us all on a panel hosted by the group Decriminalize Sex Work (Thursday, July 14, from 1:10 – 2 p.m. in room Trinidad A/B). She’ll also be part of a Reason panel on tech policy and free speech (“Big Tech vs. Big Government: Facebook, Twitter, and the Dangers of Regulating Online Speech,” on Friday, July 15, from 10:30 – 10:55 a.m. on the Mirage Mainstage).
And, Avens O’Brien and Kaytlin Bailey talking gray markets as part of the FreedomFest subversion summit should also be interesting to libertarian feminists, as should several panels on schooling and school choice. Plus, it’s always great to hear folks like former U.S. Rep. Justin Amash and 2020 Libertarian Party presidential candidate Jo Jorgensen speak.
There are plenty of FreedomFest panels and speakers whom we don’t endorse at all, too. But the diversity of thought and discussion at this annual conference is part of what makes it such a cool event. Maybe someone we don’t think we agree with will surprise us. And maybe we’ll be able to change a few minds about libertarian feminism while we’re there…
